Latela's mission is to take a genuine approach to the traditional commercial art gallery model + nourish real community within a local art scene for our represented artists and clients. By existing as a fusion between an artist studio collective and traditional art gallery, the Latela Gallery functions as an art & design boutique which sources quality art with a focus on positive energy in spaces. We understand that artwork promotes mood in the space in which it lives, therefore we not only are art curators but also energy cultivators.
The methods in which we manifest positive energy throughout our aesthetic & the gallery's existence begin with the rigorous process in which we select our artists who must demonstrate a strong sense of community and self-exploration.
Additionally, the Latela Art Gallery is a Feng Shui masterpiece to visit which hosts weekly meditation along & other energy healing activities regularly. We believe the home of our collection should be continuously filled with positive energy.
Moreover, we believe that our commitment to positive nourishment in our gallery ripples into the quality of our relationships, client-work, art collection & custom commissions.
The Latela Art Gallery opened November 2015. The Latela Curatorial Brand (now 'Commercial Art + Design Services') was founded a year earlier in 2014 by Independent Curator, Art Historian & Artist Marta Staudinger. Marta began promoting Latela by organizing exhibitions featuring local artists online with heavy social media + blogging as well as in local venues (co-working spaces, hotels, restaurants, offices, fashion boutiques and yoga studios).
The Latela Art Gallery inaugurated its opening with three consecutive open call exhibitions for the local art community. Five months after opening, Latela was voted Best Commercial Art Gallery in Washington DC. In its first year, the gallery displayed six exhibitions (featuring a total of seventy-three artists). In its second year, the Latela was voted Best Commercial Art Gallery in Washington DC a second time.
Now fully focused on Residential and Commercial Services, the gallery occasionally hosts exhibitions providing further opportunities to local emerging artists not under gallery representation.
